Puff of a Joke |

The telephone sits there ringing, You're there but no one is home. A flicker of light In the dark of the night. "Why won't they leave me alone" You draw it all in so slowly, Waiting for the pain to end. Soon you're feeling fine, And you're out of your mind, Lost to it all once again. Your burnt offering's smoke rises higher, As you sacrifice more than you know. The hard times, it seems, Are a part of your dreams, So now you've got nowhere to go. Your map to the future has faded. You've forgotten it all with a sigh. You escape from the crowd In your own hazy cloud, Sitting watching the world going by. You lie to yourself that you'll stop soon, And really it's not all that bad. So you hide from the tears For the next thirty years, And wonder what life you could have had |
